My work background has been a collaborative experience as a commercial artist painting murals for natural history museums, visitor’s centers, public spaces, hotels and private residences as well as being a model maker. Depending on the scale of the project, I either work solo or with a team of other artists and artist preparators.
With many of these collaborative projects, I have been involved in all phases of production:
-
Working with different companies, designers, clients, natural history researchers and scientists to design content in addition to developing content myself.
-
Design phases include interpreting the overall function of the murals and executing the paintings in an appropriate style and palette as envisioned by the clients, creating scale mural studies that work compositionally, aesthetically and biologically which are used to direct other painters.
-
Directing other painters often includes training in styles or techniques. Last but not least I have worked with other tradespeople and model makers whose work is an intricate part of the installation of the mural.
Project Coordination experience:
-
Budgeting hours needed for murals, working with clients to anticipate needed hours for the production of murals and muralists needed to complete projects within the constraints of scope, time and budget.
-
Organizing schedules that keep the project on track in order to meet deadlines and achieve project goals.
-
Working as a team leader overseeing other painters as well as being a solo muralist.
-
Creating prototypes and formulas for artists to follow.
-
Setting up mural studios in preparation for large projects. This includes all supplies that are part of mural painting to create streamline production and working with other departments that are integral to the overall production.
Whether working for a company or on my own, I design all maquettes digitally during the design process which then are painted in an artistic representation.
I am facile in all styles of brushwork, airbrush and stencils utilizing the finest techniques in traditional and state of the art mural painting.
