SALLY DANNELS
I was moved by color, form and line before I even knew about the elements of art. As I looked outside of the window during a break in the winter storm, I became captivated by the brilliant sunlit emerald-green hills contrasting against the dark purply-gray storm clouds. This visual memory sparked something within me and has eluded time. It lit my passion for color, form and line which have been a guiding force on my artistic path.
Because of my deep connection with nature both physically and visually, I have an inherent inclination towards painting the natural world. This connection to the natural world and the desire to express its beauty and promote environmental awareness has also been a driving force in my personal and commercial work.
I have spent my professional career as a senior muralist painting landscapes, flora and fauna in diorama murals for natural history museums and building natural science models.
I have also developed a wide range of painting techniques and brushwork used in decorative painting. These experiences have given me a breadth of skills and techniques that have further developed my abilities as a painter.
From an artistic point of view, I now realize looking back over the years of painting, that regardless of the subject matter I paint, what is most striking is my realization that I am in the end ultimately exploring the relationship and effects of color, form and line.
It is this challenging exploration that has held my fascination since I first picked up a paintbrush.
